a nice long boring update

For the grandparents' sake, and for the fact that I call this blog my 'journal', I need to mention the little things I keep forgetting to mention--mostly because I am lame and do not have pictures of the events, so I don't think to blog about them. I grabbed for my camera several times this past week and then remembered that the battery was dead. Just typing that guilted me into charging it. That's a step!

I've been sooo lazy this summer and really gotten out of our routine as far as cleaning and cooking and making my husband's lunches (lol!, sorry sweetie), but I'm trying to get back into that.

Ethan's been potty training for the past 6-7 weeks and was doing really well before our accident (he was in underwear at the time) but ever since then, we haven't been consistent about asking him and taking him to the bathroom, etc. He's such a turkey. He's such a boy. He's totally into bathroom humor and burping and farting (fake of course) and I just roll my eyes because I don't have the energy to discipline him each and every time. I guess it's true that the third child gets away with more!

Cameron and Sean have both started basketball and are having mostly fun with that. It's a battle to get them there, but once they're there, they have fun. They're both horrible, horrible! but they're having a good time. Three practices and two games a week between the two of them. We're hoppin'! They're both the smallest on their teams and this is their first exposure, so like I said, they're not very good, but it's a start. Cameron is very excited to start kindergarten in a month...hard to believe I'll have two grade-schoolers. How old am I??!?!

Here are the boys in time-out. A friend of mine said she did this with her kids and I loved the idea! They fight, they go in time out together and hug it out till they can be friends again!

Sean started Cub Scouts last week and he is having such a great time! He is totally smitten with his "Wolf" book and getting signed off on things. Yesterday we must have worked 2 hours straight on it. I finally told him I needed a break. ;)

We had a movie day Saturday and saw Transformers and Harry Potter. Both were good... Transformers has excellent excellent special effects--so very well done. The story was a little lacking and I felt myself falling asleep at one point, but the main star was pretty good and had some good one-liners. Harry Potter was awesome! I really enjoyed it. I'm excited for the next book to come out...I have my opinions regarding how that's gonna turn out and who dies...or remains dead, wink wink!

I have lots to say regarding our buying-a-car issue, but I don't have the heart right now. It's a complete and utter mess. Let me just sum up by saying DON'T BUY AT BIG BELL KIA! Absolutely horrible service there. Our salesguy was OK, but his managers (and believe me, we've talked to just about all of them at this point) are lame and liars. I'll blog about it more another day when it's all settled. Our rental car is due back (per the other insurance company's requirement, since we have our car settlement $) Wednesday night, so we're going to do our best to find and buy a car by this evening. Wish us luck.

Healing wise, we're all doing pretty well. My chest feels a lot better, but I'm getting referred pain in my back (something about nerve endings wrapping around the spinal column and such) but that's about it. Cameron still has a Droopy Dog eye that I hope will go back to normal eventually. I've put in three calls to his plastic surgeon's office for some over-the-phone consult but not getting anywhere there. They're too busy working on breast implants to worry about my little 5 year old's eye!

Sean turned eight today. I can't believe my little baby is so big. I can't believe I have a child who will be baptized in less than three weeks!! *tear!* He's a great kid. Still a little on the immature side, but so smart and loving. We're trying to expose him to a lot of sports and different new things to help him get over his anxiety issues. And speaking of issues, does anyone know a good pediatric LDS counselor? My poor little guy is having car issues--he is very timid about driving and any time we put on the breaks, he lets out a little whimper from the back of the car. He gets flashbacks all the time from the accident. Poor kid. This is gonna be a big year for him. I'm excited for the new things he's been able to tackle and enjoy. In four weeks he'll start THIRD GRADE. How is that possible? He's already excited about it.

At 10:32a (his official birthday/time), we let him open a present and here is the video. Enjoy. I love Ethan's little comment as soon as Sean opens it up..."Yes!!" Like he knows what it is!

Amie,
JMO here. We were in a car accident when Justin (now 11) was 4 years old. I was pregnant with # 2 and hit head on by a late 70's Bronco while I was traveling at 45 miles an hour. He decieded to turn out in front of us. I was in a Honda Accord. My son was in the back seat and it was crazy scary. Long story short, he did talk about it for a couple of months to anyone that would listen. I tell you that included old ladies in the grocery store! I would wait it out a little bit longer with Sean and see if his fears diminish. I hope this happens.

FYI, I haven't told anyone at the workout, except Jenna. I thought it would be funny to just have a big belly one day. I'll keep teaching.

What a great post for your family! Hope everything works out with your car. Aren't used car salesmen just that! USED CAR SALESMEN! There's a reason they have that stereotype! Glad everyone's healing! I hope Sean gets past the accident trauma. I relive mine all the time and it's still terrifying! Poor baby. Hope he has a great birthday! Wish him well for me!

I'm going to have to try that time out technique when my kids get older... Right now Kernan just LOVES his sister! When we picked her up from school yesterday he walked up to her and gave her a big hug and then they walked to the car holding hands!! Please let that last!!!
