surviving a vacation with kids but without spouse

First of all, let me wish a very happy birthday to my hubby. He is now as old as I am. He loves that for 31 days a year he gets to be a 'younger man'. Back on even playing ground. :) Love ya, babe.

We celebrated by ditching him and going up to my parents' home in Utah for 4 days (he was working lots of OT while we were gone). There used to be a time that I would never consider taking my 3 kids to the post office by myself, let alone a 7 hour car ride and vacation in my parents' very breakable house for four days. But they are a bit older (meaning my kids, not my parents), I'm a bit more patient, and we have a portable DVD player in the car that makes everybody happier, so away we went.

They kept us busy with trips to the park and picnic lunches--

--a trip to a local pumpkin patch complete with little games and rides for the kids and a 40 acre corn maze--

Next up, the petting zoo.

And I kid you not, 2 seconds after I took this picture...

...Ethan got bit by a turkey. He still has a nice little gash in his thumb.

Thanksgiving isn't that far away Mr. Turkey!!

Next up, tractor ride over to the corn maze. The ride was my favorite part of the whole experience!

"Redneck Trampoline"

Grandma kept the kids busy doing puzzles, crafts, playing games, and watching movies.

We also got to visit the temple while there.

And on our way home, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

So, Vacation-Single-Parent-Style was a success.

But I still want you to come the next time, Babe. :)

Great pics of your trip. I can't quite imagine going on a vacation without backup but I guess at some point in the future (when the kids are older) it's a possibility.

How fun. I have only taken my kids on a vacation without my hubby once and it was a 15 hour drive. Amazingly we survived!

It looks like you guys had a great time!

That's funny about Denny's... we actually took Koy there for his birthday last year. They were so delighted to have us that their entire kitchen staff came out to sing happy birthday to him. They all looked like they were either members of a gang or out on parole. Koy was terrified! So funny!

I tend to leave David when I go home, at least for part of it. I'm glad you had fun, it looks beautiful!

Oh, tell me what fall looks and feels like. A pumpkin patch, beautiful nights and long sleeve shirts, what a lucky girl.
