We spent the Thanksgiving holidays with my inlaws in California. My very sporty athletic, sports-lovin' inlaws in California. Have you met me? I am not sporty, athletic, or sports-lovin'. I stick out like a sore thumb over there. I mean like a one-of-these-things-is-not-like-the-other kind of way. But I love 'em, so I grin and bear the 24 hour ESPN commentaries.
In the 3 full and 2 half-days we were there, we did the following:
- participated in Turkey Bowl football game
- watched at least 3 football games on TV, maybe more?
- watched a live high school football game (75-0, home team)
- participated in a jujitsu match
- played catch and ran bases just for fun
- watched a movie about football
And when we weren't participating in the sports, we were talking about the sports. Oh the humanity! At one point, I had to point out that we hadn't talked about Broadway Plays once since I'd been there. ;) Inlaws. Gotta love 'em. (and I do!)
So, among all the sporty things, we visited with cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, great grandmas, grandpas, and even a few great uncles and great aunts and so forth. You get the idea-very extended family back there.
We baked pies and ate out and ate in (deep-pitted turkey that I sort of helped prepare-sooooo good!) and ate junk food and yummy treats that we never get to eat at home!
We played games with Great Grandparents, and all gathered around to see where the strange outlet in the middle of the living room floor went to.
We giggled and laughed and there may have been a cool whip fight among the grandparents, but I didn't get pics of that so you can't prove anything.
The boys loved helping Grandpa with yard work-I mean seriously-they were out there raking leaves at least three times while we were there! The weather started out so lovely; Thanksgiving was warm and perfect. Then the wind came and the temperature dropped and it even rained a bit before we left.
We watched a couple of movies in the theatre ("Planet 51" which the kids really liked and then we theatre-hopped over to "New Moon"-yes, I've seen it three times in the theatre now!)
We sure love our family over there and wish we could see them more often!
