cam's basketball practice, OR, holy cow! look how good these in-door low-light shots are!!

First, let me just mention that this is a 9-10 year old league, and Cameron won't even turn 9 until after the season ends.  However, just due to their rules and age cut-offs, he fit into this bracket.  I don't really get it, but it is what it is.

So, having said that, notice that the kids are all at least a head taller than him.  And some of them, 2 years older.

He's got some great coaches.

And they're a nice bunch of kids.

And I couldn't believe it when I found out that there are Deaf parents on this team again.   Totally different family from those I met during football season.  (I need to start charging for my interpreting services!  *giggle*)

Cameron isn't very good, and no one passes him the ball.  But he's having fun and I know he'll only improve as the season continues.

I had given up even taking my last camera to these practices.  Without the flash, the subjects were blurry and dark.  With the flash I only got the immediate 6 feet in front of us in focus.  It was completely worthless.  This camera is pretty amazing.  For the most part I left these on the automatic sports mode (no flash), but I did play with the ISO a bit (higher ISO, better pictures) F-stops and change of aperture didn't improve shots at all on manual, in fact they only darkened pictures and made things much worse.  I didn't want to use the flash to distract the kids, and I didn't know that it would be very effective anyway, but I do look forward to being able to try out the camera at the kids' first game next weekend.

I do still get a little bit blurry shots when the kids are running and moving.  Anyone have any advice for me?  Or should I just leave it on automatic/sports mode?

Now this must be the deaf family that we have had on teams... unlike the last lady you met! I believe they have two boys that are close to Stockton's age (10). Great shots with your camera by the way! Keep up the good work... and then come teach me ;)

Did you get my email with the camera info? You can barrow one of my low light lens if you like. You can use them without a flash and still get a crisp action shot.

To get rid of the blur up your shutter speed...faster shutter speed freezes the action...although I must say I like the blurry ones when your son is in focus...very artsy!!

Isn't the T1i awesome?!?! I have definitely found if I up my shutter speed it helps, just as Camie said. Great shots of Cam in focus and people running by blurry! Yeah for basketball, but I don't get the city's dumb age rules either, so dumb!

I agree about the age gap in the city sport programs... Weird. I cant help you with the photo stuff. I have had my rebel 3 years and I still suck at it most of the time I have it on manual. You seem to be doing great though!
