easter

Continuing on, we celebrated Easter Sunday morning. Now some day, we will be that family that separates the egg hunting and jollyness to a Saturday and keeps Easter Sunday most reverent. This was not that day. But some day hopefully we'll do that. As for this year, there was just no way to do an egg hunt on Saturday...just too busy! Anyway, to our credit, as we were getting our kids dressed before their egg hunt, we talked about the true meaning of Easter and how unimportant the eggs and candy and Easter bunny were, and about how truly important the Savior, the atonement, and his resurrection were. Thankfully, Sean got it; he had all the right answers and I could just see the look in his eyes of 'Yes Mom, I know this...I totally get that Easter is about Jesus, you don't need to remind me.' However son, that's my job!

Anyway, on to the hunt! The kids came out to some pretty cool scooters and collected a dozen eggs each. That was plenty! We had one scooter before that had been broken for years and I was seriously embarassed any time any of the kids tried to use it and keep up with the neighbor kids...and I knew if we only got one, there was certain to be a fight. Luckily, these were not expensive and worked out quite well. The hunt went great--Sean and Cam found their 12 in little under 2 minutes and then helped Ethan collect his.
It was a really cool day! Our ward choir (of which I was commissioned to rejoin!) put on most of the sacrament meeting and I was fighting tears and emotion through the whole thing! That carried on throughout the day. Later, when Danny and I were reading from the Ensign (we're on the last general conference edition from November...slightly behind, but we'll get there!) I was getting choked up during each and every article. Oy! We enjoyed a quiet Easter dinner with just Danny's Mom, and then later we watched The Nativity Story. It was a perfect ending to this awesome perfect day. I really enjoyed the movie; I hope you all get a chance to see it. A little artistic license taken of course, but very well done and probably pretty close to how things really occurred during Jesus' birth.
