evan almighty

OK, yes, I'll admit it: we watch TV on Sunday. And I don't just mean Disney movies... we watch whatever movies we have in our cache, and football and cartoons and whatever. (Had to grin a little bit today when our high counselor was talking about his decision to stop watching football on Sunday and how it changed his life) I'm just not there, so to speak where I feel it is necessary to cut out television on my Sunday. I grew up watching TV, so did Dan, and I feel we turned out pretty darn well *snort!*, and in my opinion, if it's something you shouldn't be watching on Sunday, well then you probably shouldn't be watching it anyway. Put it in the temple recommend interview and I'll gladly give it up. So there you have it. Pass judgement as you will.

That being said, we watched "Evan Almighty" tonight. (Does it make some of you feel better knowing it was a movie about Noah, lol?) I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! It was totally cute! Very clean, no icky language or subject matter. In fact, under the PG rating it says "Rated PG for mild rude humor and peril." Peril? Who says that any more? And honestly, if a little bit of peril is the worst thing in a movie about a man following God's commandment to build an ark, well, I'll take it.

Cuz the moral is awesome: our Heavenly Father knows best. He knows us, and he knows what is going to test us and what is going to make us stronger, what is going to help answer our prayers, and what is going to change the world. There were some great lines in this movie. And bless Steve Carrell's heart, he's really grown on me. I really thought he was just a complete idiot about three months ago (but I'd never seen him in anything, so shame on me for judging), but then I got into "The Office" and heard about the wholesome movies he's done recently and I'm changing my tune. The guy is entertaining. (And I can't even tell you how many times my five year old said, "It's Michael Scott!" Over and over. And over. And over. Yes, it is.

So, I totally recommend it. I know it didn't do great in the theatres, but that's just because it had no potty words and no nekkid body parts. And for you who would rather wait until Monday, well, you probably don't read blogs on Sunday and likely won't get this until tomorrow anyway, so how about you watch it for your Family Home Evening, *wink*!

I really want to watch this one. Did you get it from the library? What are you guys doing Tuesday night? DJ has the night off, have you shopped yet, do you want to cook together that night, why is the sky blue, what came first the chicken or the egg?

I'm a fellow Sunday watcher as well. I just can't give it up. I try and make Logan watch church videos in the morning before church just so he knows that today is different than any other morning. Today I put one in and he said "Jesus!" that made me smile.
I'm a Simpson's watcher too. I didn't come from the family that said we couldn't watch it and I'm still a loyal fan today.

I'm trying to bully my DH into giving up Football on Sundays. Not TV altogether - just Football. Cause reeeeaaallly - is 7 hours of football necessary. In fact, my argument is that it is actually detrimental to your Salvation! :)
Goodness knows, he won't be going to heaven unless I pull him up from the pits of hell. And our marriage might not last the season! :)
Self-righteous - me???? Never! Now where's my Jack Daniels?!

So glad you commented on this movie... I wasn't even going to give Evan a chance because I'd watched the Bruce Almighty one and wasn't impressed at all. So maybe I'll add it to my list after all... Thanks.
