100 things about me

Oy.just the title puts me to sleep.  How will I ever find enough interesting things about me to fill this blog post, I have no clue.  Plus, ya'll know it all already.  However, someone was asking me to do this the other, day, so I decided to give it a go.  Over the past week, I've been adding to it bit by bit.  Hopefully you have something caffeine-riddled nearby to help get you through this.  Onward.

1.  I pushed a piano over on it's broad side when I was 9 years old in the elementary school gym.  Our band teacher quit the next day.

2.  I grew up in a State Park, population about 25.

3.  I did not go on a real actual I'll-pick-you-up-at-7 type date until I had graduated from high school and started college at 18.  (People didn't date in my town, they 'went out', and I lived 45 miles from town.  It was long-distance to call any of my friends.)

4.  I got engaged to a guy via the internet and an LDS chat room when I was 21.  (not Danny)

5.  I used to have my tongue pierced.

6.  My favorite band is Barenaked Ladies.  (5 fully clothed men from Canada)

7.  My dad worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers as a dam operator.  People referred to him as 'that dam man.'  I was his dam daughter.   He drove the dam truck on the dam hill and carried the dam water in the dam bucket.

8.  I was once in an elevator with Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson.

9.  My favorite movie ever is "Steel Magnolias."  I cry every time.

10.  I was the second child baptized in our font in the LDS branch I grew up in.

11.  My family has been in two car accidents bad enough to require someone being air-evaced out.

12.  I'm allergic to walnuts.

13.  I detest the artificial flavor of cherry (tastes like cough syrup) but I love real cherries.

14. I taught myself piano by ear starting at around age 9.

15.  All three of my babies were born c-section at 8 lbs, 8 lbs 10 oz, and 9 lbs 7 oz.

16.  I love the rain, but I absolutely hate driving in it.

17.  My husband and I were engaged after dating 8 weeks, then were married 8 weeks later.

18.  I'm fluent in American Sign Language and was an interpreter for 7 years.

19.  When I was in college, some friends of mine and I stood face to face with President Howard W. Hunter before a fireside held in Tucson one summer.  He said hello to us.  We were stunned speechless and could only utter "hi" in return.

20.  I love brownies and could easily polish off a whole batch by myself.  When I was pregnant with Ethan, I'd make a batch almost every other day, and not share with anyone.

21.  I can gain or lose 5 pounds in a day.  I gain really fast, but I can lose pretty fast too.

22.  When I grew up, I was crazy in love with Dan Majerle from the Phoenix Suns.  When my husband worked security at the Civic Plaza downtown, he had to tell Dan to move his car because it was parked illegally.

23.  I love to cook and make new recipes.  My family does not like when I make new recipes.

24.  I am the tannest I've ever been in my life right now.

25.  As an adult, I have weighed as little as 125 pounds or as much as 220 pounds (pregnant)

26.  I hate the sound of nails scraping along the bottom of a wooden drawer.

27.  I have 25 scrapbooks that I've filled since 1999.

28.  I hate hate hate cockroaches.  They freak me out!  I had to kill one a couple of weeks ago while Dan was away at work.  I called him, practically hyperventilating, telling him that I'd killed it.  I'm not sure what I expected him to say, maybe give me a pat on the back or something, but his only response was, ". . . okay, can I get back to work now?"

29.  I consider myself somewhat of a hot chocolate connoisseur.  I could drink hot cocoa every single day, summer included.  In fact, I had some QT hot chocolate just yesterday.  Mmmm.

30.  I was my school's Prom Queen.

31.  I was also the Salutatorian of my class.  (Brains and Beauty, I got it all, baby)

32.  I have never been able to force myself to touch a 9-volt battery to my tongue to see if it's still good.  The idea scares me too much.

33.  I've never had a drop of alcohol in my life.

34.  When I was a kid, I wanted to be a children's author when I grew up.  I also wanted 7 kids.  Ha.

35.  I've never gone snowskiing or waterskiing.

36.  When I turned 18, I kid you not, the things I was most excited about being able to do were 1) donate blood and 2) vote.

37.  When I was in 8th grade, I won the school spelling bee.  I went to the county spelling bee and got no where.

38.  I once took a guy on a date in a plane ride.  (our mutual friend was a pilot-it was a pretty rockin' date)

39.  My husband is on his third wedding ring.  He lost his first at Slide Rock in Sedona,  3 months after we got married.  His second was cut off of him and accidentally thrown away at St. Joe's Hospital after our car accident in 01.

40.  I'm pretty lucky when it comes to contests and giveaways.

41.  I love cleaning other peoples' homes.

42.  I hate eggs.

43.  I'm allergic to pretty much any animal with fur/hair.

44.  I got my patriarchal blessing when I was 12.

45.  I walked on my toes until I was 9 years old having taken ballet when I was 4.  I have stunted toes because of it and that fact has stopped me from ever receiving a pedicure.

46.  When I was a kid, my dog Speckles saved my life by guarding me from a rattlesnake that was in our yard.  She came between me and the snake and barked until my mom came out to rescue me.  My dog was bitten by snakes a couple of times over the years and got really sick, but never died from the bites.

47.  I fainted once in the middle of interpreting for an algebra class.  I was so embarassed when I woke up, I said I was fine and kept on interpreting the lesson until I could figure out what had happened.

48.  My high school mascott was the Frog.

49.  My first real job was housekeeping at a hospital in Wickenburg.  I was pretty good at it.

50.  I'm very practical when it comes to gifts; I'm not crazy about receiving flowers.

51.  I've been to Niagara Falls, Mount Rushmore, the Mayan temples of Chichen-itza in the Yucatan, Yellowstone, the Sacred Grove, the Grand Canyon, and seen the burial sites of Joseph and Hyrum Smith.  My parents took us on pretty cool vacations when we were kids.

52.  I love to garden but am a horrible gardener.  I vow to try again in September.

53.  Where I grew up, there were wild donkeys, so it wasn't rare to be woken up at night by the sound of burrows braying.

54.  I've read the entire Twilight Saga four times (some of it 5 times) and read it twice out loud.

55.  We are debt free, but our house.

56.  My favorite song is "When I'm With You" by Sheriff.

57.  I love to dance and have been trying to learn club dance moves from the internet, lol!

58.  I had my first email address back in 1993, via the electronic forum at the community college I attended.  This was back before the internet and email were cool.  I still remember my email address even though it was all numbers and initials.

59.  I love Aerosmith and have seen them in concert.  Though I may not agree with the way they live their lives, they put on one rockin' concert!  The only drawback from that evening is that I was set up on a blind date with this horrible boring person who didn't get the hint still weeks later that I was completely uninterested in him.  I finally had to start lying to him until he got the point and left me alone.

60.  I get cold at 75 degrees.  I'm afraid I'll live in AZ until I'm dead.

61.  I'm not a sports fan at all but I've been to see the Diamondbacks, the Suns, the Coyotes, and the Rattlers play.

62.  I don't like red meat.  This made it pretty easy to be a vegetarian during my high school years.  Though I gave that up a year or two later, I still am not crazy about anything except chicken and ground beef.   Interestingly enough, my husband served his mission in Argentina where they eat steak for every single meal, breakfast included.

63.  I went on a two week LDS mission to Scottsdale when I was 18.  I loved it so much, I decided I wanted to serve a mission of my own.  However, that was not in the cards.

64.  I've written three complete songs/musical pieces (no words) but have no idea what to do with them.

65.  I can bend my thumbs backwards into 90 degree angles at the knuckle so that they touch each other.

66.  I went to all four years of Proms while in high school.

67.  I won a writing competition when I was 16 for the Southwestern Society of Authors for a story entitled "Life's Storm."

68.  My family couldn't afford braces when I was growing up, but I needed them badly.  My rockin' dentist (shout out, Bishop Lamb!) pulled a bunch of my teeth and fitted me with half a dozen retainers to reshape my mouth over the years.  To this day, he brags that I'm one of his best orthodontia cases.

69.  I really really really really really like Johnny Depp.

70.  I love math.  And budgeting.  One of my favorite things to do is balance my checkbook.

71.  I hate the ocean.  It's dirty, you get sand everywhere, and when you stand on the edge and look out, it looks like it's sucking you in.  I hate the idea of swimming where I can't see or reach the bottom.

72.  We've had a girl's name picked out since I was 3 months pregnant with my oldest son.  We'll never get to use it.

73.  I hate clutter.  I've been known to throw away many an important thing because i was just tired of it sitting around without a home.

73.  My favorite place to eat out is Abuelo's.

74.  I hate cats.  I'm fiercely allergic.

75.  I get anxiety attacks when I'm late or almost late to something.  If I'm not at least 5 minutes early, I'm late!

76.  My favorite television shows are/were "Friends", "Smallville", "Grey's Anatomy," and "Surviver."

77.  I wear mascara every day.  Cuz I look like a 12 year old girl without it.

78.  I'm totally a morning person.  I'd rather get up at 3am than have to stay up til 3am.

79.  I love board games.

80.  I love to camp and I'm proud of the fact that I'm pretty good at it.  Prom dresses and pierced ears may not be in my kids' future (let's hope not!) but I can hang with the boys like the best of them!

81.  I like to flirt.

82.  I love Mountain Dew, but have given it up for the most part because it gives me stomach aches.

83.  I hate grocery shopping.

84.  I hate clothes shopping too.  Unless it's shoes.

85.  I pretty much can't stand the mall.  The prices, the atmosphere, the kids thinking they're SO COOL, ugh, can't stand it.

86.  A few weeks ago, we put the Home Depot into a Code Adam alert because I couldn't find Cameron.  They looked for him for 5 minutes before finding him in the bathroom.

87.  I love to read but am really picky about what I'll start up.  Generally, if it doesn't grab me in the first 2 pages, I give up.  And I'm not just talking about story line, I'm talking about writing style.   I'm too picky, it's a fault.

88.  I love to sing, though I don't think I'm very good at it.

89.  I talk to myself a lot, especially in the car.

90.  I work out generally 4 days a week-hard core workouts.  But unless I eat right, I continue to gain weight.  I'm waiting for that miracle pill that I KNOW will be invented some day that will dissolve unwanted fat.

91.  I have 20/20 vision.  Everyone else in my family wears glasses, but I got lucky somehow.  I'm not even crazy about carrots.

92.  Speaking of vegetables, I absolutely loathe brussel sprouts.  I used to call them little puke pellets.  Nasty disgusting smelly vile things.

93.  I love country music for the stories, but pop music for the beat.

94.  I love to go garage sale-ing.

95.  I am a horrible public speaker.

96.  I've never gotten a speeding ticket.

97.  I'm actually really really shy.

98.  I love blogs.

99.  I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan (financial talk radio personality).

100.  'I'd love to serve a mission with Danny once our kids have grown and left home.

Whew, dang, that was hard.  OK, I'm gonna tag some new people this time, those I haven't tagged in a while:  Ashley B, Betsy, Deana, Jessica M, Kenia, Lindsay, Stacy, Stephanie D,  and  Teri.  Take a week or two and work on it.  You'll remember fun things about yourself, ha!

That was cool lady! See I learned some new stuff ( I promise you I will never make you eat brussle sprouts ) and you're totally not boring, no caffine needed. And you may very well need that girl name later for a granddaughter, you never know. =)

I am so glad that you are debt free, except for the house. Congratulations! We love Dave Ramsey also, and are teaching his stuff for the fourth time. We still have a ways to go, but we still keep chug a lugging....I loved reading your blog and looking at the pictures. I am sorry to hear about your grandma, it sounds like she was a wonderful lady.
Love, Mary
