Ok now, before you get excited, this portable DVD player doesn't work-as a DVD player, that is. It works just fine as a CD player, but for some reason, it won't read DVDs anymore. We bought this about 2 years ago I think, and for the first year it worked great. It even lasted thru our horrific car accident last summer-even after it flew thru the air and hit my dear Ethan on the forehead, causing a scar that will stay with him throughout his sojourn in mortality. (It's ok, chicks dig scars, right?) But yes, it even lasted through that. Then, my hubby took it to work and left it on PAUSE all day, and after that, the laser or reader or whatever became fried.
So I've had it sitting around for six months, hoping it would suddenly fix itself (don't laugh, you know you do it too) but alas, the time has come to clean out the garage and this needs to depart.
Here's the basics. It comes with the box and a bunch of stuff (remote, wires, battery, charger, etc etc). When you put a DVD in it and turn it on, it will do this:
It basically searches for the DVD, trying to read it.
When it finds none, it says "Wrong Disc."
If you put a CD in it, it will play just fine, perfectly, in fact. So, you can either look at this as a really nice sturdy CD player with a huge screen or you can try to fix it. I haven't had the heart to throw it away, hoping someone might be able to do so.
It's the kind of player that has the 180degree screen, so you can close it up nicely if you like.

Have you tried cleaning the laser eye with a q-tip and some alcohol?
I think therein lies the problem... looks like the laser eye is broken, cracked in half--not sure how it still reads CDs, or maybe I just don't have any clue what I'm talking about.
