My mom used to do this with us when we were kids-has anyone else tried it? it's cheap entertainment. . .good for a solid 5 minutes distraction, right?
You start with a pie plate, cookie sheet, or otherwise flat surface. Can you see me in the reflection? I'm not wearing any pants. Just kidding.
Grab your favorite shaving cream.
And squirt (spray? what does one do with aerosol shaving cream?) about half a cup to a cup worth.
And let your kiddo go to town.
I had my kids wear little aprons just in case they got a bit messy or wild with their shaving cream, but you really don't need to worry too much about mess-it's soap. It cleans up really easily.
I like to encourage them to draw pictures or practice ABCs or whatnot.
If nothing else, their hands get really clean.
And when they're done, they smell like Daddy. *Plus*
Try it! It's fun. =)

My mom used to do corn starch and water for me in a little bowl while she was cooking.
...she even did it when I got older. Still fun :)
You should make Ooblek. Your boys would LOVE IT!!
Check out the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck (Sr. Seuss) and then make Oobleck by mixing cornstarch and water in equal parts. Use green food coloring to make it look like Oobleck. (Mix the food coloring in with the water for easier mixing)
It is a solid at room temperature, but when you touch it it melts. So fun to play with and as a bonus it makes your hands REALLY soft!
My kids play with it for at least an hour and you can cover it and save it for later too!
We will definitely be doing this very soon. We were at pre-K testing Friday and this is one of the suggested ways of teaching the letter formation. So yeah.. fun.. love all the pluses! ;)
We used to do this in third grade to clean our desks. Our teacher would spray the shaving cream on and we would play with it until it disolved and then wash it off with water. FUN!!
I was thinkin' you were nuts. I thought you were going to let them have a shaving cream fight. Fun stuff!
None ended up on their faces? My grandsons would have done that first!
My kids did that once. All over the bathroom.
you are a brave woman. I try to avoid such situations. ha
