book butterfly reviews -- march

It's taking me a much longer time to get through books this year. I don't need to go into why. . . Even with Spring Break this past month I didn't get a ton of reading done, not with assignments and care plans and tests to prepare for. 6 weeks left of the semester, and it's going so fast. :)

Here's what I read last month:

Explosive Eighteen (Stephanie Plum, #18)

"Explosive Eighteen (Stephanie Plum #18)" by Janet Evanovich

it was ok (my current rating) it was ok (my current rating)

I was all set to give this one three stars--interesting plot, humorous bits, romantic bits, interesting new characters--until I finished it and found myself very ticked off. A major plot point was hinted at in the beginning of the book--something huge in fact, leading to some romance in Hawaii with Steph and Ranger, a fight between Ranger and Joe, and Steph leaving the island in anger. However, none of that actually happened in the book, it was only referred to on occasion as happening previous...but that's what I wanted to read about! I kept waiting for a major flashback or something juicy to tie it all together, but nothing. So in the end, flat flat flat. Major fail, Evanovich. We're considering quitting at this point. Methinks Janet is only in it for the money and there will never be a resolution for these characters. Barf.

Fallen (Fallen, #1)

"Fallen (Fallen #1)" by Lauren Kate

Luce is 17 and is at a boarding school of sorts for bad behavior. She meets two gorgeous guys who are of course vying for her attention and to whom she is both inexplicably drawn to. Among the persistent feelings of familiarity/deja vu, shadows that follow her, dreams of wings, and I'm-drawn-to-him-and-don't-know-why events, she learns that something is going on with her blooming relationships that she can't explain.

This was consistently a 3-star rating for me until the last 1/4 of the book or so. To be honest, most of the book was boring and it got tedious not understanding what is going on. But the finale was pretty great, and now I am excited to read the next installment. (And the book jacket art is gorgeous!)

Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1)

"Hex Hall (Hex Hall #1)" by Rachel Hawkins

This is another witch-in-reform-school-for-bad-behavior story. Sophie is a new witch just coming into her powers, banished to reform school for a love spell-gone wrong. Meanwhile, evil is afoot as three students are attacked and detention has her serving a 3-month stint with her Crush. Light fun magic-type story, perfect for Spring Break. I'll keep reading this series.

Dan and I also finished the 3rd Harry Potter Book, "Prisoner of Azkaban". I think I'm enjoying the Potter books even more the second time around, and this is when they start getting good.

So there you have it, a bunch of series! What are you reading?
