cub scouts at the world wildlife zoo

Last weekend was Free Cub Scout day if you wore your uniform to the World Wildlife Zoo over here on our side of town.  So I got Ethan and Cameron all dressed up (I wore Danny's uniform, ha!) and off we went to the zoo for a totally free day.  Even the rides were free!

And hot!

And we lasted about three hours!

But it's all good.  Got lots of fun pics and saved somewhere around $8,000 if I figure the cost of admission correctly.  Sheesh.  It's the zoo.  Not a trip to the moon.

IMG_8049 IMG_8051 IMG_8053 The aquarium at our zoo is amazing, one of the biggest on the west coast if I remember the claim.

IMG_8055 IMG_8056 IMG_8057  IMG_8069 IMG_8070 IMG_8075 Bottle-nose sharks I think?

IMG_8076 IMG_8078 IMG_8080 IMG_8081 See ya later, alligator!

IMG_8088IMG_8093 I love the macaws.

IMG_8094He probably does too.

For dinner.

IMG_8105 I fell in love with these poisonous tree frogs.

IMG_8102 Aren't their colors amazing?

 IMG_8109 Always a favorite.

IMG_8119 Do you see a seahorse?

IMG_8121IMG_8126  IMG_8128 Pretty impressive, right?

IMG_8132 IMG_8133 IMG_8155 This guy gave me the creeps.

IMG_8156 He didn't move.  He didn't blink.  He didn't breathe.

I think he may have been dead, yet no one was brave enough to find out for sure.

IMG_8162 They did the free-ninety-free log ride several times.

(Normally $6/90-second ride.  Seriously?)

IMG_8175 IMG_8180 By about 1p, we were getting pretty warm, and I'll be the first to admit those uniforms are a tad stifling.  So we took the train ride around the grounds to relax and cool off.

IMG_8215 IMG_8217 We'll see him again later, up close and personal.

IMG_8220 IMG_8227 IMG_8229 IMG_8251 I think the only cat we saw all day.  We were too exhausted to make the trek all the way out to the cat exhibits.

IMG_8258 Hello again.

IMG_8260 IMG_8264 IMG_8268 IMG_8273 Then, as we were about to expire from heat exhaustion, we decided to take one last ride in the form of the sky tram before hitting the road.

IMG_8274 IMG_8275 IMG_8280Khaki is so not my color.

IMG_8276 Here we go!

I promise you the 'roos are not dead, just trying not to get heat stroke, just like us.

IMG_8288 Off to the reptile exhibit, which frankly, smelled a bit ripe.

Wouldn't want to mess with him, no way no how.

IMG_8298I neglected to put this guy in perspective. . . he's abot the size of a labrador retriever.  :)

And thus wraps up our zoo afternoon.  We came home hot, sweaty, and with tired feet, but it was still a great opportunity.  Thanks to the zoo for sponsoring a great event supporting and encouraging our Cub Scouts!

In all my time in AZ I have never been to the World Wildlife Zoo. It actually looks a lot more fun than I thought it was in my head! If we make it back this summer we might have to add it to our to do list!!
